Prayer and Meditation

The Prayer and Meditation group are a friendly bunch who meet once a month to pray together for our Benefice. We usually meet for about an hour and share a cup of coffee along with the opportunity to think on the day’s Bible reading and to pray for people and events taking place in our village communities. Anyone is welcome to join in – it doesn’t need to be a regular commitment – so do come along, by kind invitation of Yvonne Barnes.

The Lord's Supper

On this evening we remember Jesus’ last supper with his disciples before his arrest. We are reminded of his example of service as he washed their feet. We share in Holy Communion, just as he commanded them to do whenever they ate bread and drank wine together. At the end of the service, as we listen to the account of his arrest, the altar is stripped and the church made ready to keep Good Friday in simplicity.

Maundy Thursday - The Chrism Mass

This service takes place every Maundy Thursday at Norwich Cathedral as the clergy of the Diocese meet with their Bishop to worship together and to renew their Ordination Vows. Each year members of our parish churches are encouraged to attend too; to pledge their commitment to supporting their priests and to offer their own lives to the service of God. The service includes Holy Communion. During the service the Bishop also blesses the holy oils. A light lunch is provided for those attending in the transepts after the service. Anyone is welcome to attend this service, but please let the vicar know a week beforehand if you would like to be included in the lunch numbers.

The Annual Meeting for Parishioners and the Annual Parochial Church Meeting for each church in the Brooke Benefice will be held this year on Sunday 17th March at 11.30am in St Peters Church Brooke.

Everyone resident in the parish is entitled to vote at the first meeting and those on the Church Electoral Roll may vote at the second. For details of how to be included in the Electoral Roll please see the further notice.

An exploration of God at work in our lives

Each week, following refreshments, and in the context of opening and closing times of prayer, our invited guest will share with us some of their experiences of God at work in their lives. There will be opportunities for questions and discussion and the offer of activities to take home, so that those who wish to can consider where God is at work in them in their own times of reflection and prayer.

Easter Eve

Easter Eve

The Vigil  -  6pm

We keep watch for the dawning of Easter, as the first Christians did, sharing together in the stories of the men and women who were faithful to God from the beginning.  We also share in a simple supper of bread and cheese.

The New Fire  -  7pm

We move outside as we light the New Fire of Easter and begin our celebration of the Resurrection.  We carry the light into the dark church and worship together as we spread it around the candles there and enjoy our first sight of the Easter decorations.  We conclude our celebrations with a Pudding Party!

Maundy Thursday

The Lord's Supper

and The Watch

We gather together to share in a very special service of Holy Communion, as we remember Jesus' Last Supper with his diciples.  At the end of our worship, we remember Jesus going out into the Garden of Gethsemene and his disciples falling asleep as they watched while he prayed.  We keep watch as we meditate on the events of the first Maundy Thursday and think ahead to Jesus' crucifixion.

Annual Parochial Church Meetings

Annual Parochial Church Meetings

These meetings are our yearly opportunity to review all that has happened in our parishes during the year, to thank those who hold office and lead our organisations and to elect representatives for the coming year.

All those who live in our parishes are welcome to attend, and those who are on the Church Electoral Roll may vote in elections.

This year we are experimenting with having our meetings together in one place and at one time - and on a Sunday!  There will be an opportunity to worship together at 10am before the meetings begin at 11.30am.  We have chosen St Peter's Church at Brooke so that we can offer refreshments between the service and the meeting.

If you are at all concerned for the future and well-being of the churches in our benefice then please come along and use this meeting as an opportunity to find out more.

Lent Study Group

Lent Study Group

This year we will be following the course "From the Ram to the Lamb" and thinking about some of the ways that Jesus fulfils Old Testament prophecy and making links between his Passion and the sacrificial system.  In our final session we will be considering the Passover Meal and its relevance to our celebration of Easter.  There will be opportunities for Bible study, discussion and worship, as well as the opportunity to meet with one another as we journey together through Lent.  All are welcome to come along to one or all of the sessions.

We will meet at the same time and venue every Wednesday during Lent.

Candlemas Service

Candlemas Service

Join us for a candle-lit Family Service, with Holy Communion, to celebrate the Feast of Candlemas. There will be a special guest appearance from Brooke’s Open the Book team and the choir will be contributing to our worship too.

The Feast of Candlemas, also known as the feast of the Presentation of Christ, marks the end of the Christmas season. Whilst the gospel story reminds us of the visit of the Holy Family to the temple, and the revelation of Jesus as the “light to lighten the gentiles”, tradition also makes this the day when the candles for use in the church over the year are blessed.
